As we have been reporting in our blog, recently there has been a massive amount of vehicle recalls in America over defective auto parts. Sadly, in 2014, there were more than 60 million vehicles recalled in the U.S. due to a variety of reasons—this number is nearly twice as much as the previous American record.

One large-scale case that has been distressing consumers is the Takata airbag recall, which has affected tens of millions of vehicles worldwide. The airbags can allegedly explode and hit passengers with shrapnel.

Unfortunately, in addition to the Takata recall, several manufacturers, including Toyota, Chrysler and Honda, reported that customers might have to bring their vehicles back for a second repair, because the secondary airbags (installed following initial repairs) have inadvertently inflated in some models.

To view the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) announcement about the second recall, you can click here. The recall concerns defects with electronic components.

According to the NHTSA, the additional recall extends to nearly 2.12 million early 2000 Acura MDX, Dodge Viper, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Liberty, Honda Odyssey, Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix and Toyota Avalon models.

The agency said that it has “identified about 40 vehicles in which airbags [have] deployed” after they were replaced previously.

SHOULD I TALK TO A NASHVILLE ATTORNEY ABOUT A RECALLED VEHICLE?

The additional recall is an unfortunate turn of events for American consumers, who have experienced many setbacks over the previous year. Remember, vehicle manufacturers have an obligation to make sure that the products they sell are safe. People should not have to suffer because these companies neglected their responsibility.

If someone is injured in a vehicle accident, or their loved one is killed, they have a right to have the incident investigated by a lawyer, who can independently determine if any vehicle flaw compromised a driver’s safety.
