Sadly, ABC News reported that almost 30 percent of nursing homes in the U.S. were cited for instances of abuse over a two-year period from January 1999 to January 2001.

While this statistic is older, it still shows how issues like bedsores, inadequate medical care, malnutrition, dehydration and preventable accidents can occur in a nursing home that is not treating a resident with acceptable care. In fact, ABC News also reported that instances of “serious, physical, sexual and verbal abuse” were common issues at nursing homes.

Tennessee Nursing Home Employee Indicted for Elder Abuse

According to, a former nursing home employee in Florence was recently indicted in connection with the alleged abuse of a 96-year-old patient. The woman was charged with second-degree elderly abuse and neglect.

She is accused of causing intentional harm to the resident by “grabbing or twisting her arm, hitting and thumping her on the head.” The victim reportedly suffered “multiple knots on her head and a bruise on her arm.”
