Stanley A. Davis Davis and the 2018 scholarship recipients
|

The Law Office of Stanley A. Davis is proud to announce that we have selected three Tennessee students to receive our Pay It Forward Scholarship this year. We take pride in supporting our local community; accordingly, this scholarship was offered to undergraduate students who could demonstrate their commitment to helping the less fortunate, promoting equality and serving their communities.

The three students appeared in person at our Nashville law office, where founder Stanley Davis presented each with a check. This scholarship will help our winners pay for their college education; all three winners are attending Tennessee universities. Originally, this scholarship was offered to just one student, but it proved impossible to choose between our top three applications.

About the Recipients of the Pay It Forward Scholarship

Each of our three scholarship recipients wrote an essay detailing how our nation’s legal system helped or hindered them in their efforts to serve their community. Additionally, our winners recorded a short video explaining the main points of their essays. We are pleased to announce that the three winners of the 2018 Pay It Forward Scholarship from the Law Office of Stanley A. Davis are:

  • Jade Plummer. Jade graduated from MLK Jr. Magnet High School in 2018, where she took multiple advanced placement courses. As part of her community service and Senior Capstone project, she shadowed attorneys, researched current legislation, sat in on court cases, talked to victims of crimes, and presented a solution to a local problem to three judges. She hopes to go into the field of entertainment law and improve the legal system by enforcing the three Es: Enable, Educate, Empower. She will be attending Lipscomb University in the fall.
  • Morgan Goodson. Morgan is a 2017 graduate of Riverdale High School, and is going to be entering her sophomore year at Middle Tennessee State University in the fall. At MTSU, she writes weekly articles for The Odyssey and is part of Young Life, an on-campus nonprofit Christian Ministry. She is majoring in Social Work and minoring in Spanish, with plans to complete the Forensic Social Work program after graduating. Her dream is to become a Correctional Social Worker, assisting released inmates to reduce recidivism.
  • Maria Griffin. Maria will be a senior at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga in the fall. She is majoring in Legal Assistant Studies with a minor in Africana Studies. She graduated with distinction from John Overton High School in 2016, and will be earning her degree a year early. After graduation, she plans to attend law school. As an attorney, she wishes to focus on juvenile law with the end goal of helping minority children find and take advantage of opportunities to thrive.
