Can I Hold a Taxi Driver Liable for an Accident?

Have you been involved in a vehicle accident as a passenger in a taxi? Has a taxi driver ever hit your vehicle?

If you have been involved in a mishap with a taxi and suffered injuries, you should know that you have rights. As a passenger in a taxi, if you are involved in an accident, your claim may involve both the driver of the vehicle and potentially the taxi service provider.

Keep in mind, if the taxi you are occupying is involved in an accident with another vehicle, the taxi driver and service provider could potentially be held liable, as well as the other driver on the roadway if negligence was involved.

Additionally, you should also remember that if a taxi strikes the car you are driving, you could also hold the taxi driver and his or her service provider liable, the same way you would hold any other negligent driver liable for a crash.

Remember, it may be in your best interest to speak to an attorney following an accident involving a taxi. In some cases, taxi drivers are considered independent contractors, which may present a grey area when it comes to liability. This is why having an accident investigated by a third party, like an attorney, may prove to be important.

Taxi accidents can occur for a number of reasons, including poorly maintained vehicles and driver fatigue and/or negligence. Sadly, as the case below shows, sometimes accidents can prove to be disastrous due to the sheer number of passengers occupying a cab.

Nashville Taxi Accident Kills One, Injures Seven

Unfortunately, on February 14, one person was killed and seven other people were injured in a taxi accident in south Nashville.

According to WSMV-TV, seven people riding in a Music City Taxi vehicle were hurt when it collided with another vehicle, near the intersection of Mt. Pisgah Road and Ravens Glen. The man who died in the accident was identified as an Indiana resident and taxi passenger. Six other occupants of the vehicle were also injured, including the driver.

The driver of the other vehicle also suffered non-critical injuries. An investigation into the accident is ongoing, although preliminary reports suggest that failure to yield on the part of the taxi driver appeared to be the contributing factor in the crash.
