Teen Defies Odds After Horrific Murfreesboro Crash

A Murfreesboro teenager is generating national attention for her amazing recovery following a horrific car accident last December. According to WKRN-TV, Caytie Gascoigne recently attended her high school prom when only a few months ago it was debated whether she would ever walk again. She also performed in her senior play at Riverside High School. Gascoigne was in a coma for 21 days at Vanderbilt University Medical Center following the car accident that left her with a traumatic brain injury and several broken bones requiring surgery. The accident occurred when another driver hit her vehicle head-on as she was on her way home from school. The crash resulted in Gascoigne going through extensive physical therapy, including on-site rehabilitation in Atlanta. Four People Injured in Murfreesboro Wrong-Way Accident

According to WTVF-TV, four people were injured in a three-car crash on Northwest Broad Street near Battlefield Parkway in Murfreesboro on May 21. The news outlet reported that the crash happened on the southbound lanes of the street, at around 6:30 a.m. One of the vehicles reportedly overturned and came to rest in a wooded area next to the roadway, while the other two were seriously damaged in the middle of the road. One of the victims involved in the accident had to be extricated from a vehicle. Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department officials said that a Dodge Caravan driven by Jeffrey Barrett, 34, struck another car, then went over a median into the southbound lanes, and was struck on the passenger side by a Honda Odyssey, driven by 57-year-old Martha Carpenter, which had Chester Carpenter, age 61, and two teenagers also inside the vehicle. Murfreesboro Man Charged in Connection to Fatal Pedestrian Accident

According to WTVF-TV, a Murfreesboro man has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication after police said he struck and killed a pedestrian on April 16 in Nashville. Police said that Charles James Farris II, 40, was drinking when he struck Carlton Pitts, who was crossing the street at the Harding Place exit just off Interstate 24 eastbound, around 11 p.m. Pitts’ fiancé reportedly told investigators that she was walking with him in a crosswalk when he was hit. Police told WTVF that Farris drove about 250 feet following the impact of the crash with Pitts on the hood of his car before he stopped on a ramp, backed up and struck a guardrail. Pitts’ fiancé was not hurt in the pedestrian accident. A police report said that Farris smelled of alcohol, and was unsteady on his feet and had watery eyes; he also failed field sobriety tests.
