Recently, the Daily Beast reported that Risperdal has been at the forefront of more than 1,300 lawsuits nationally over breast growth among young men who were prescribed the antipsychotic drug. According to the news source, one lawsuit claimed that a young man grew female breasts of size 46DD, with Johnson & Johnson having to settle the case for an undisclosed amount of money.

Risperdal was originally prescribed to treat schizophrenia; however, many doctors began using the drug to treat children with ADD and ADHD after Johnson & Johnson allegedly promoted its use for the disorders in marketing efforts. In one lawsuit, a former U.S. Food and Drug Administration commissioner testified that Johnson & Johnson pushed doctors through to prescribe the drug for off-label use, even though it knew as far back as 2010 that the drug could cause female breast growth.

Because of the alleged marketing efforts, in 2012, Johnson & Johnson settled a lawsuit from the state of Texas for $158 million over claims that it pushed the drug onto children and the elderly for unapproved purposes.
