The news station reported that the man was riding a refurbished bicycle around the block of Preston Drive in East Nashville when a vehicle struck him. Friends and family members did not know the man was injured until they looked for him, as the driver of the vehicle that struck him fled the scene of the accident.

The 24-year-old victim was found on the ground, next to a light pole, with his bike mangled by the impact of the crash. One neighbor said that he heard tires screeching and possibly an older minivan leaving the neighborhood around the time the accident occurred.

The victim was taken to Skyline Medical Center where he was treated for a fractured skull and other injuries. Neighbors said that there are warning signs in the area and bicycle lanes, but people often speed down the roads.

“I’ve seen three or four accidents, which worries me because I have kids,” one man told WSMV.
