According to the Tennessean, a Camaro driven by a 37-year-old man was going about 50 mph in a 35 mph zone on Clifton Avenue, near 39th Avenue West, when police attempted to stop the vehicle.

The driver of the Camaro then sped away from officers, eventually crashing into a Chevrolet Trailblazer, causing the SUV to flip. The Camaro ended up striking a brick building. A passenger in the Camaro died at the scene of the crash. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to the hospital for injuries.

Police said a preliminary investigation into the accident discovered that drugs might have played a role in the crash. Blood samples were taken from the driver of the Camaro, who may face criminal charges.

Speeding Kills. Avoid this Dangerous Habit.

Although this case remains under investigation, it should serve as a reminder that speeding plays a role in a significant number of fatal crashes. In fact, the U.S. Department of Transportation reports that speeding is among the leading causes of fatal vehicle accidents in America. The agency says that speeding plays a role in about 30 percent of all fatal accidents, leading to the death of about 1,000 people nationwide each month.

Avoid this dangerous habit. Speeding can result in a driver losing control of a vehicle—by not obeying posted signs, you put not only yourself but other people on the road in danger.
