According to CNN, the EWG Action Fund, a consumer protection group, has reported that four boxes of crayons it tested came back positive for traces of asbestos. Additionally, asbestos was allegedly found in two toy crime lab kits by the group.

Sadly, asbestos exposure has been linked to respiratory illnesses including lung disease, lung cancer and mesothelioma. CNN reported that the crayons that tested positive for asbestos included Amscan Crayons purchased at Party City, and Disney Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Crayons and Saban’s Power Rangers Super Megaforce boxes purchased at Dollar Tree.

Additionally, the EWG reported that asbestos was found in “black fingerprint powder in the Edu Science Deluxe Forensics Lab Kit, purchased at ToysRUs.com, and the white fingerprint powder from the Inside Intelligence Secret Spy kit, purchased on Amazon.com.”

Pursuing a Lawsuit over a Defective Product Injury

It is scary that traces of asbestos have been allegedly found in these children’s products. Remember, manufacturers have a duty to make sure their products are safe before they are sold in the U.S.

This is especially true when it comes to products marketed to children including toys, crayons and items like strollers and nursery materials. If a defective product has injured you or your child, our Nashville attorney can investigate your case and determine if you may be entitled to damages.
