According to The Leaf Chronicle, a 29-year-old Clarksville man was killed in a January 8 armored truck accident near the Tennessee-Kentucky state line.

The accident happened at about 2:45 p.m., according to a news release from the Kentucky State Police. Leading up to the wreck, the man was driving a 2008 International Loomis armored truck east on Interstate 24 near mile marker 92.

The Kentucky State Police reported that the driver suffered a medical trauma, causing him to lose control of the truck, which proceeded to go off the right shoulder of I-24 and travel up and down an embankment. After coming down from the embankment, the truck returned to I-24 and overturned as it crossed both lanes before coming to a stop upright in the median.

The driver died at the scene. A 38-year-old man who was a passenger in the truck was injured in the crash. Air Evac took him to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.

Following an autopsy, the State Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that the 29-year-old driver did not die because of injuries sustained in the wreck but a medical condition.

It is unfortunate when a driver’s medical condition causes him or her to have an accident. However, it can be especially problematic if it is a truck driver who suffers a medical emergency while behind the wheel. Accidents involving large trucks tend to be devastating because of the size of the vehicles or if the trailer is carrying hazardous material.
