Always Look Both Ways! Motorcyclist Killed When Driver Pulled in Front of Him

A Kentucky man and his passenger were recently involved in a motorcycle accident in Paris, Tennessee. The two were riding on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when a 2008 Chevrolet HHR SUV pulled out in front of the two. The motorcycle rammed into the left side of the SUV and spun out into the center of the road, flinging both riders away. The driver died at the scene of the accident, and the passenger was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where she was listed in critical, but stable condition. An early 2016 report showed that in the first few months of the year, motorcycle accident fatalities rose nearly 25 percent as compared to the previous year. April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month – Do Your Part

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Do you use a cell phone while driving? Did you know that it’s illegal to text and drive in the state of Tennessee? According to AAA, an astonishing 94 percent of teen drivers acknowledge the dangers of texting and driving, but 35 percent of them admitted to doing it anyway. But the problem is not limited to teens alone. Tennessee Highway Patrol is using this month as a way to raise awareness of the issue, but also as a time of increased enforcement of the texting and driving law. Using a semi-truck usually used to haul equipment for their traffic simulator, THP is going undercover, using it as a perch to spot texters and others violating distracted driving laws. Pet Distractions While Driving Dangers Highlighted in Recent Nashville Crash

Do you own pets? Make sure they are secured if you are driving with them, for your safety and their own! Pets distractions while driving can be just as dangerous as texting while driving and any other action that takes away your focus from driving. Recently, a man crashed into a power pole in south Nashville, knocking out electricity to thousands for residents after he said kittens distracted him inside his vehicle. According to the Tennessean, the crash occurred on Hickory Boulevard, near Cane Ridge Free Will Baptist Church. It is not clear if the kittens were caged. However, even caged or restrained animals can lead to accidents caused by pet distractions while driving. This Nashville accident remains under investigation.
