New Study Gives Hope For People Suffering From Traumatic Brain Injuries

A new study conducted by Dr. Mareen Weber, an instructor in psychiatry at McLean Hospital in Boston, shows that bright light therapy may improve sleep, reasoning, and overall brain function in patients who suffer from traumatic brain injuries (TBI). The results indicate that after six weeks of “morning bright light therapy”, patients were showing significant improvements in brain initiation when performing thought provoking tasks, as well as an improvement in their sleep patterns. According to the study, nearly 50 percent of all people who have sustained a TBI have sleep problems after their accident. Proper sleep patterns have been linked to brain flexibility and may aid in the recovery of the brain after it has sustained trauma. Car accidents are a common source of head trauma. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the second highest cause of TBIs in the United States is motor vehicle accidents. If…

Semi-Truck Tips Over Spilling Load of Scrap Metal

A tractor-trailer in Jackson, Tennessee on Highway 45 North tipped over spilling out its cargo of scrap metal on May 28. Officials said one of the truck’s tires blew out causing the load to shift and tip the trailer over. Fire crews said very little fuel or oil had leaked from the truck. Luckily, no one was next to the trailer when it tipped over, and the truck driver was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. Often times improperly loading a truck will cause it to be more at risk of tipping over or jackknifing. Unevenly distributed materials or instances where too much weight is added will cause these types of accidents. Other causes for tipping accidents to occur are poor maintenance of the truck or trailer. Semi-truck accidents, unfortunately, cause some of the worst injuries, ranging from spinal injuries to head trauma. Debilitating injuries like these can be…

Nashville Car Accident Attorney Reviews Columbia Car Accident Involving Father and 9-Month-Old Daughter

Joe Sims’ 9-month-old daughter may owe her life to the infant car seat her dad strapped her in to on March 21. At around 11:00 a.m., Sims was leaving the Columbia Mall area when his truck began veering diagonally across South James Campbell Boulevard and ended up crashing into a nearby drainage ditch. The force of the impact smashed the front of his Ford F-150 into the ground. The Daily Herald noted that first responders at the scene found him to be unresponsive to their questions, and he was bleeding from head trauma. When he came to, Sims was unable to use his right arm—a sign of severe head injury. A ladder needed to be lowered into the embankment in order to reach Sims to pull him from the crushed truck. He was quickly airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to be treated for a possible traumatic brain injury (TBI)…
