Thanksgiving Eve: Avoid Drunk Driving in Nashville

Sadly, each holiday season, there is an increase in the number of drunken driving accidents occurring nationally. The drunk driving season typically begins today, on Thanksgiving Eve, which is also known as “Blackout Wednesday” by some in the bar industry. Statistics compiled by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) show a sharp rise in drunk-driving fatalities on Thanksgiving Eve, with the day competing with holidays including New Year’s Eve and the Fourth of July as one of the drunkest nights on roadways. According to MADD, the proportion of people killed in drunk driving crashes over the Thanksgiving holiday spiked by 30 percent in 2010, when compared to the rest of the year.
