Truck Driver Charged With Aggravated Assault Following Franklin County Crash

According to the Associated Press, charges have been filed against a tractor-trailer driver who fled the scene of an accident that closed Interstate 81 in Franklin County for several hours on November 19.

The AP reported that 41-year-old Ricky Lynn Hatfield of New Tazwell faces counts including aggravated assault while driving under the influence. Investigators said that Hatfield was driving erratically when he struck two disabled vehicles on the shoulder of the road.

The drivers of the disabled vehicles were seriously injured. Hatfield reportedly fled the scene of the accident and was later found in a gas station bathroom.
