According to a recent report by WBIR, two people died in a tragic sequence of back-to-back car accidents on Monday, April 7. The victims were driving south down Interstate 81 in Hamblen County, Tennessee when a collision spun their vehicle out of control. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has not released full details of the initial collision; however, authorities have stated that the car spun out into opposing traffic after the collision.

Unfortunately, the car came to a stop perpendicular to oncoming traffic. Then, a tractor-trailer came barreling north on Interstate-81. Given that tractor-trailers often weigh up to 20 times more than a standard automobile, they are incredibly difficult to stop or maneuver in emergency situations. As such, the tractor-trailer collided with the victim’s car, killing the driver and one of the passengers; the third passenger survived the accident with serious injuries. Emergency crews promptly arrived at the scene of the accident to administer treatment to the surviving passenger and tend to the victims.
