Sadly, it seems like every couple of months there are major bus accidents in the U.S. involving charter vehicles.
These buses are designed to carry huge numbers of passengers, so when these accidents occur, they can be catastrophic and result in death and serious personal injuries. Unfortunately, these accidents can occur for a number of reasons, including driver negligence, overcrowding in the vehicle, lack of vehicle maintenance and defective equipment.
Remember, last year a bus accident in Dandridge killed eight people and injured 14 others. This is a good example of how devastating these crashes can be.
Tragically, another bus accident involving a Megabus on a route from Atlanta to Chicago occurred in Greenwood, Indiana on October 7. It is notable to our readers, because the bus had stops scheduled in Chattanooga and Nashville.
According to USA Today, the accident injured more than a dozen people, as the bus was carrying between 50 and 60 people at the time of the crash. The crash reportedly occurred as the driver attempted to avoid a minor accident in the roadway that had occurred earlier. The bus reportedly swerved and landed on its side.
One bus passenger was reportedly taken to the hospital with critical injuries. The rest of the passengers reportedly had “moderate to minor” injuries.
