According to the WTVF-TV, a mother died and her 7-year-old son was injured in a rollover accident near Bordeaux on August 3. The television station reported that Elizabeth Staley was driving a Ford Explorer north on Ashland City Highway near Briley Parkway when the vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes and sideswiped a Dodge Caravan.

Staley’s vehicle then left the roadway and rolled over. Staley died at the scene of the crash—her son suffered non-life threatening injured and was taken to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

The driver of the van and its passenger, Robert and Patricia McBee, both 70, also suffered non-critical injuries and were taken to Centennial Medical Center for treatment, according to WTVF. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Police told WTVF that everyone was wearing a seatbelt and there was no indication of alcohol or drug involvement.

Last week, we blogged about wrong-way driving accidents. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reports that each year, nearly 400 people died in wrong-way driving accidents. Some of the leading causes of wrong-way car accidents are alcohol and drugs, medical emergencies and defective auto parts.
