WTVF-TV reported last week that neighbors in Mt. Pleasant are mourning the loss of a high school senior who died in a car crash on August 16.

The station reported that Beverly Orban, 17, died while she was on her way to a high school football jamboree. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), Orban was driving a 1998 Honda southbound on U.S. Highway 166 and was attempting to negotiate a curve when she drove off the right side of the road. She over-corrected and went off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

The last time I saw her we were driving around here, and she pulled off to the side and said, ‘I love you,’ that’s what I’ll remember, she loved everyone,” family friend Erin Smith told WTVF.

Beverly’s mother told WTVF that she wanted people to remember a scripture that was special to Beverly:  “…The lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Unfortunately, overcorrection is a common issue on roadways, which can lead to horrific accidents. Overcorrecting occurs when a person over steers in reaction to an event and loses control of his or her vehicle. When you are driving, it is important to remain calm to ovoid overcorrection. If you see something unexpected in the roadway or have to negotiate a hard turn, keep your foot off the break and off your accelerator and ease into any turn or movement.
