According to WSMV-TV, a Nashville man was injured when a concrete truck he was operating flipped on Interstate 40 in Putnam County on October 10.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said that James K. Vaughan, 51, was driving a concrete mixer truck for Premiere Concrete Pumping Inc., based in La Vergne, westbound on I-40 near mile marker 280 when the truck drifted off the left side of the interstate.

WSMV reported that Vaughan overcorrected the truck, sending it back to the roadway, while it began to flip over and roll. “[Vaughan] started swerving on the road, and I was going to try to get his attention,” Juanita Hurt, a witness told WSMV. “Before I got his attention, he flipped. I just stopped to help him.”

Vaughan was transported via helicopter to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga for treatment. As of last week, the FHP was investigating the crash.

Sometimes truck accidents occur because of driver error; however, there are cases where accidents can occur because of negligence on behalf of a trucking company or defective auto parts. For example, if a truck is overloaded or has a defective auto part that breaks, it can cause a truck to jackknife—this can injure not only the driver but also other motorists on the road.

Each year, more than 1 million people suffer serious personal injuries in the United States due to truck crashes, with close to 4,000 people dying. If you have suffered injuries or have lost a family member due to a truck accident, we offer compassionate and experienced legal assistance. Contact our Nashville truck accident lawyer today at (615) 866-3938.
