According to the Tennessean, a man and woman were killed in an overnight crash on September 6 on Interstate 65 in Brentwood. The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said that the pair were attempting to cross the highway by foot when they were struck.

Jessica Coleman, 20, of Pulaski and Rodney J. Hatton, 26, of Columbia were killed in the crash, which occurred near mile marker 71, near Concord Road. An oncoming 2012 Chevrolet Camaro in the HOV lane reportedly hit them.

The car accident occurred at about 11 p.m., resulting in the closure of I-65. The accident remains under investigation, although the THP reported that Coleman and Hatton had been involved in a minor accident that left their vehicle disabled near the highway prior to their death.

The driver of the Camaro, Amber Pater, 23, and her passenger, Linda McGillem, 43, both of Nashville, were injured in the collision and taken to Williamson Medical Center.

If you have a disabled vehicle, you should always contact roadside assistance or local law enforcement authorities before attempting to get out of your car. If you call for a tow truck, you should always wait in your vehicle until the truck arrives. You should always turn your vehicle’s hazard lights on if you are stranded near a roadway.

Unfortunately, no matter what you do when you have a disabled vehicle, your safety is going to be in the hands of another driver. If someone negligently hits you while your vehicle is disabled, and you suffer injuries, you may be entitled to compensation.

If you or someone close to you has suffered a serious injury or you have had a loved one killed by a negligent driver, let us help you. Contact our office now at (615) 866-3938 for a free evaluation of your case.
