According to WTVF-TV, a 22-year-old man was killed in a single vehicle accident in Murfreesboro on New Year’s Day.

The accident reportedly took place along N. Rutherford Boulevard around 3:30 a.m. According to reports, Robert S. Cook, of Burns, died in the crash.

The Murfreesboro Police Department said that 30-year-old Shelia Holmes lost control of the vehicle that Cook was a passenger in, and hit a curve and struck a center median. She then traveled back across the roadway, and struck a large utility pole and other items on the side of the road.

Cook, who occupied the left rear passenger seat, died at the scene of the crash. Holmes and front seat passenger Joan Bullington, 28, were taken to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital with minor injuries.

According to reports, LifeFlight took a passenger in the rear-center seat, 22-year-old Jamarist Kelley, to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville with serious injuries. Another passenger, 23-year-old Nicholas Parker, was said to have left the scene of the crash before police arrived and has not been located, according to WTVF.

Police are still investigating the accident, and a blood sample was taken from Holmes to see if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Charges are pending.
