Did you know that each year approximately 700,000 vehicle accidents occur at stop signs in the U.S.?

Many of these crashes result in catastrophic injuries like broken bones, spinal cord injuries and head injuries. According to the US National Library of Medicine, sign violations are to blame in about 70 percent of stop sign accidents.

Most of the accidents are angular collisions, according to the agency, resulting in major damage to vehicles. Sadly, drivers older than 65 and younger than 18 are disproportionately found to be at fault in crashes at stop signs.

Tragically, on September 4, a Nashville woman was killed when a car driven by her husband was involved in a wreck at the intersection of Arkansas 53 and Arkansas 26 at 12:40 p.m. in Clark County, Arkansas.

Police told the Magnolia Reporter that Reginald Eaton, 71, was operating a Chrysler when a Dodge vehicle driven by Michael Huff, 41, ran a stop sign and hit his vehicle.

Phyllus Eaton, 66, was killed in the crash. Two other passengers in Eaton’s vehicle, including Mattie French, 7, and Aaron French, 13, were also injured in the accident.
