As the weather begins to warm up this spring, there will be more motorcyclists on the road. This means drivers should use caution when operating a vehicle around them.

Keep in mind, in 2013, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reported that there were more than 2,800 motorcycle crashes in the Volunteer State. Aside from death, these accidents can result in personal injuries, like spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, amputations and broken bones.

Remember, if you are found at fault for causing a motorcycle accident due to negligence, you could potentially be held liable. Each spring, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) releases safety information for drivers and motorcyclists to reduce accident risks.

Among the tips:

  • Always allow a motorcyclist a full lane width
  • Do not tailgate a motorcyclist
  • Always check your blind spots prior to changing lanes, as motorcycles are smaller than most vehicles and difficult to see
  • Avoid distracted driving
  • If you are operating a motorcycle, wear protective gear, including jackets and helmets.

MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN HEAD-ON CRASH IN CLARKSVILLE

We bring up motorcycle accidents because sadly on March 16, a motorcyclist and his wife were involved in a Clarksville accident.

According to WKRN-TV, the motorcycle accident occurred on Highway 76, near the Hilldale Church of Christ. Reports indicate that Bruce Best, of Dickson, and his wife, Lisa, were riding a motorcycle that was struck by 72-year-old Herbert Hensley of Maryland.

Bruce died following the crash—Lisa was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for critical injury treatment. An investigation into the accident is ongoing, although Hensley has been charged with reckless homicide and booked into jail.

HAVING A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATED

If you are ever injured in a motorcycle accident or your loved one is killed, it may be a good idea to speak to an attorney. Sadly, statistics indicate that other drivers on the road cause most motorcycle accidents. If a driver has harmed you, you may have legal options to hold him or her accountable.

Our attorney is committed to his faith and helping others. He may be able to assist you following your heartbreaking accident.
