WKRN-TV reported that a child was hurt on September 5 after he or she was run over by a golf cart at the Nashville Zoo.

According to the television station, the accident occurred during a private party on the site. Zoo officials said the cart that was involved in the accident was being used to cater a private event.

WKRN reported that zoo officials said several children were playing with the cart at the event when the brake on the vehicle unlocked, causing it to roll back over the child who was injured.

It is unclear how old the child who was injured is. He or she was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The accident remains under investigation.

We hope that the child who was injured in this accident makes a full recovery. Businesses and property owners have a duty to ensure that possible safety hazards are not present on sites before allowing guests or customers to traverse them.

This includes making sure potential hazards are locked up or stored in ways that children cannot easily manipulate them. Other examples of premises hazards include slip and falls, improper lighting or assaults due to inattentive security.
