A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident involving a semi-truck off of the I-40 West near Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard. According to a report with Metro Nashville Police Department, the driver hit the concrete median on the highway. After exiting the vehicle to assess the damage, a semi-truck swerved, hit the man and failed to stop in order to render assistance. The pedestrian died at the scene.

WHAT TO DO IN A HIT-AND-RUN TRUCK ACCIDENT

Hit-and-run accidents are frustrating in minor cases and devastating when injuries are involved. However, when a hit-and-run accident involving a semi-truck occurs, the resulting injuries can be catastrophic or even fatal. Hit-and-run truck accidents can occur when the driver is under the influence, is texting while driving or is driving while tired. In the Nashville incident, police aren’t sure the truck driver even noticed he hit someone.

If you have been involved in a hit-and-run accident with any vehicle, especially larger trucks, there are steps you can take afterwards that can help the police track the truck down, including:

  • Stay at the scene – Even though the truck driver sped off, it is important that you remain at the scene and file a report.
  • Write down the details – In all likelihood, the truck has the truck company name written somewhere along the trailer in bold font. If you can jot that down along with the license plate number and the direction it was heading, these details can help police track it down.
  • Gather witness information – Gather the statements and contact information of anyone in the area who saw the accident.
  • Call the police – While you may not want to get the police involved or think it may be pointless to do so, police can actually help you track the truck down. Moreover, a police report is important in building a strong personal injury case
  • Contact a Nashville personal injury attorney – An attorney can help you understand your legal options, especially in cases involving truck accidents.
