WTVF-TV reported that an Old Hickory teenager was injured in a freak accident last month, when a truck accidently backed over him. The station reported that Caleb Wilson, 17, was hanging out at Old Hickory Lake with friends when a truck rolled over him.
Wilson reportedly broke his ankle and suffered a severe spinal cord injury. Nobody else was injured n the accident. “I just didn’t know what to think,” said Isaac Wilson, Caleb’s brother told WTVF. “It was crazy something could happen like that. It only takes a second for something like that to occur.”
Wilson played football and baseball at Goodpasture Christian School. He is being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. “We started the hashtag ‘pray for Caleb’ on Twitter and it started trending when he was in surgery yesterday,” said Wilson’s friend, Kaitlyn Hager told WTVF. “People who don’t even know him have been tweeting it, saying they are supporting him and praying for him.”
No charges have been filed because of the accident. Wilson’s family told WTVF that he would have an extended recovery as he tries to overcome his injuries. If this accident was the result of negligence or defective auto parts, it is possible that the family could seek compensation.
There are between an estimated 12,000 and 20,000 new cases of spinal cord injuries annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This type of injury often requires extensive physical therapy and rehabilitation, resulting in high medical care costs.
