Tennessee State Police say that a blown tire caused a fatal car accident involving a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer in late July.

A 2001 Ford F350 pickup carrying five passengers was heading west on I-40 near Haywood County in the late afternoon. The police report says that a tire blew, causing the pickup to veer across the median. It collided with a 2007 International tractor-trailer.

All five of the passengers in the pickup were from Louisville, KY. Three of them died, and two of them, including the driver, sustained serious injuries. The semi-truck driver was not seriously injured.

Police say that the driver was wearing a seatbelt, but do not know if any of the other four passengers were wearing seatbelts.

The victims’ friends and family will be in our prayers, along with the victims still recovering from their injuries. Blown tires are a major cause of both car and semi truck accidents. This week we will discuss how you can do your best to avoid tire blowouts.

“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.” – Psalm 24:17-20
