Two recent Nashville area accidents involving vehicles crashing into buildings have alarmed the public, but it is important to understand why these incidents occur.

Building-vehicle accidents are not uncommon—according to a report in the Miami Herald, these types of crashes result in 10 serious injuries each day across the United States.

Vehicle-building crashes can be caused by:

  • Medical emergencies involving drivers
  • Reckless driving
  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Distracted driving
  • Confusion regarding the area and directions
  • The disregard of traffic signals
  • Auto part failure

As a driver, you should avoid habits that could lead to a building-vehicle collision. Due to objects falling and building materials breaking, these collisions are often violent. If you cause an accident resulting in injuries or the death of a pedestrian, you can be held liable.

TWO NASHVILLE PROPERTY-VEHICLE CRASHES GENERATE HEADLINES

As we noted above, two Nashville-area accidents caught our eye recently, leading us to blog about this subject.

According to WSMV-TV, on August 5, a car crashed into several building pillars in the yard of a home in north Nashville. The driver who caused the crash allegedly was on the phone with his girlfriend when the incident occurred, telling her that he was not feeling well and rushing home.

Officials said that accident was caused by the driver’s medical condition and that he was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Thankfully, no pedestrians were injured in the crash.

In a separate crash, on August 10, a driver crashed a car into the Lebanon Driver Services Center. The driver told investigators that she was attempting to park the vehicle when she hit its accelerator instead of the brakes.

The car jumped a curb and crashed into a wall at the facility. No serious injuries were reported due to the accident, although there was extensive damage to the building.
