According to WTVF-TV, a 30-year-old man has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication and driving without a license following a Nashville motorcycle accident on Interstate 40 on November 11.

WTVF reported that Metro Police charged Jose Miguel Castillo-Calles for his alleged role in the crash that killed John R. Johnson of Mt. Juliet. Castillo-Calles reportedly was driving a Volkswagen Passat when he struck Johnson’s Kawasaki Motorcycle from behind near the Interstate 40/Interstate 24 split.

The vehicles reportedly became stuck together, hitting a series of guardrails on the shoulder of the interstate. Johnson was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting the first guardrail. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Castillo-Calles reportedly fled the scene of the accident on foot; however, an officer spotted him a short time later walking on 2nd Avenue South near the Howard Office building. He reportedly failed several field sobriety tests and a blood alcohol sample had to be performed.
