A woman in downtown Johnson City, Tennessee narrowly escaped a near fatal car accident on Thursday night, April 18. 23-year-old Rachel Witt was almost to the sidewalk when she was hit by 48-year-old Tracy Yohey while crossing Spring Street. Yohey said she was swerving to miss a car that pulled out in front of her when she hit Witt. Witt, miraculously, was able to walk away from the accident.

Many Johnson City natives are now calling for changes to be made at the well-known hazardous cross walk. Residents are asking for something to be done that will alert drivers to pedestrians. Lt. Larry Williams told a local news channel that the intersection is viewed as safe, as long as drivers do the right thing. Drivers, as well as residents, are asking for change before something tragic happens again. As of now, no charges have been filed, but the case is still under investigation.

When crossing a designated cross walk, pedestrians will always have the right-of-way. It is imperative that drivers understand this and abide by the laws to avoid these types of situations. There are many unfortunate cases where a negligent driver fails to stop in time. If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident where the other driver was a fault, you may be entitled to seek recompense due to their negligence.
