Do you own a vehicle with a defective Takata airbag? If you believe you are driving a vehicle involved in an ongoing recall, you can always visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) database and search by the VIN number.

We have been following the Takata airbag recall events for several weeks—the devices can allegedly explode and hit passengers with shrapnel. At least four U.S. drivers of Honda and Acura cars are believed to have been killed by the airbags, according to CNN.

The recall is currently geographical and has been limited to vehicles located in warmer states with humid climates.

However, this may change. A recent NHTSA study discovered a second airbag that exploded in a location outside the regional recall. This has led the federal government to ask for recalls to be expanded nationwide.

Currently, the recall covers eight million vehicles made by 10 different automakers. An official with the NHTSA said that Takata could face a fine of up to $35 million if it does not agree to the nationwide recall, according to CNN.

CAN I FILE A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG LAWSUIT?

If a defective product like a recalled airbag injures you, you should hold the airbag manufacturer and the vehicle company liable. The injuries associated with defective auto parts are distressing—they include broken bones, spinal cord injuries and brain injuries.

Additionally, when it comes to the Takata recall, the family of a victim who allegedly suffered fatal neck wounds in an accident in Florida has filed a wrongful death lawsuit. Speak to our attorney if you would like more information about defective products.
