According to WTVF-TV, a Hickman County teenager was killed on March 15 in a single car accident on Interstate 40 in Cheatham County.

The station reported that the crash occurred just before 2 p.m., at mile marker 191. The Tennessee Department of Transportation identified the victim as 18-year-old Gary Russell of Nunnelly, Tenn.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said that Russell was travelling westbound when he swerved off the road and struck a cliff for unknown reasons.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing. An 18-year-old female passenger in the vehicle also sustained injuries. The extent of her injuries is unknown.

WTVF reported that I-40 was closed for nearly two hours while officials cleared the scene of the accident.
