Sadly, three people were injured following a wrong-way car accident in Nashville on May 26, near the Silliman Evans Bridge.

According to WKRN-TV, multiple vehicles were involved in the incident, which occurred at around 3:30 a.m. The news station reported that the driver of a vehicle going the wrong way on Interstate 24 eastbound collided with another car, the passengers of which had to be extracted and taken to a hospital for injury treatment.

The driver of the vehicle that was travelling the wrong way, 39, reportedly has multiple previous driving under the influence of alcohol convictions. He was also taken to the hospital for treatment. He was later booked into jail and charged with two counts of vehicular assault, reckless driving and driving on a revoked license, according to WKRN-TV.

The accident remains under investigation. It is unclear if further charges will be filed.

HOW CAN A LAWSUIT HELP A WRONG-WAY ACCIDENT VICTIM?

As we have reported in previous blogs, most wrong-way accidents are avoidable, as they are often the result of drunk and/or reckless driving. Additionally, wrong-way accidents are often fatal, so we are thankful that the victims in this crash survived. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drivers and passengers are 27 percent more likely to die in wrong-way collisions than in normal crashes.

If you have been injured or your loved one has been killed in a vehicle accident involving a wrong-way driver, speak to our attorney about your legal rights. You may be able to hold him or her liable for your injuries. By speaking to an attorney, you may be able to ensure that evidence is preserved following an accident—this may prove vital during litigation.
