According to WTVF-TV, a truck driver was recently arrested after he allegedly left the scene of a fatal Nashville motorcycle accident that took place on October 5.

The news outlet reported that the accident occurred at around 6:30 a.m. on Nestor Street. The driver, Jose Oscar Gallardo-Lopez, was allegedly turning into a warehouse when his tractor-trailer collided with a motorcycle driven by a 25-year-old man from Old Clarksville Pike.

Police said after the accident, Gallardo-Lopez continued to drive to the rear of the parking lot and attempted to back into a space. The victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Witnesses told police they saw Gallardo-Lopez attempting to fix the bumper on his truck after the accident. Officers said they found evidence in the truck that he may have been drinking and a blood sample was drawn. The accident remains under investigation.

This story is a sad reminder that you should never leave the scene of an accident. You can face both criminal and civil consequences if you leave a crash resulting in the injuries or the death of someone else.

Hit-and-run accidents can occur when drivers lack insurance, have warrants out for their arrests or are under the influence of alcohol. Thankfully, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has a unit that specializes in investigating hit-and-run accidents in Davidson County.
