A recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) examined alcohol use in each state and identified the number one alcohol-consuming city in each. Nashville made the top of the list for Tennessee. Does this data help explain the rate of drunk driving accidents in Nashville?

As it turns out, Tennessee has the smallest share of self-reported excessive drinking among citizens. Nashville’s excessive drinking percentage tops the list for cities in Tennessee, but even so, the rate here is far below the national average, which sat at 18.0 percent. It is also one of the smallest shares for any U.S. city surveyed.

However, 26.6 percent of traffic fatalities in Nashville are alcohol-related.

WHAT DO I DO IF I LOSE A LOVED ONE TO A DRUNK DRIVER IN NASHVILLE?

Losing a loved one – especially to something preventable like a drunk driving crash – is never easy. If someone else’s negligence caused your loved one’s death, then that person should be held responsible. In situations involving drunk driving deaths, the police will bring a criminal case against the driver responsible. However, you should know that these criminal cases are wholly separate from any civil action that the victim’s loved ones can pursue against the negligent driver.

If you lose a loved one in a car accident, it is important to discuss your case with a wrongful death attorney. The death of a loved one, especially the family breadwinner, has serious financial implications on top of the grief the loved one’s suffer. Through a wrongful death lawsuit, it is possible to recover damages for things like medical bills, funeral and burial expenses, lost wages, loss of consortium and more. Our law firm is skilled at helping the loved ones of car accident victims seek the recovery they are entitled to.
