Five drivers ended up at the Anderson County Jail over the first weekend in December for driving under the influence (DUI) of various substances. Two of them caused car accidents.

CLINTON ARRESTS

William Ernest Foster, 29, hit a mailbox and drove away from the scene. When police found him, he admitted to smoking marijuana with two passengers in the car. Police charged him with DUI, vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

Sean Edward Tipton, 41, attracted police attention when he turned and crossed the centerline, turning his car into oncoming traffic. Police administered a breathalyzer and Tipton registered a .15 BAC.

OAK RIDGE ARRESTS

Police pulled over Clifford Ray Kimbro, 64, for crossing the centerline and driving erratically. He reportedly said “I’m drunk” when the officer pulled him over. He registered a .17 BAC.

Sarah Adair Curry, 35, failed sobriety tests after causing a head-on crash when she drove in the wrong lane on East Wadsworth Circle. There were no serious injuries in the crash.

Police arrested Gerry Lynn Simmons, 55, after she ran her car off the road. She admitted that she had been drinking and taking medications.

These drivers and other Anderson County residents are lucky that none of these inebriated drivers caused a fatal car accident. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that more than 30 percent of drivers involved in fatal weekend accidents are driving impaired.
