Tennessee Highway Patrol arrived to the scene of a fatal car crash in South Nashville on Saturday morning, February 18, 2013. Troopers say that 28-year-old Crystal Maier was traveling southbound when she swerved into oncoming traffic. Maier’s black Honda grazed two cars before slamming head-on into another vehicle. In total, five vehicles were involved in the accident.

Four-year-old Eileen Sorto was thrown from the backseat of her mother’s Nissan Maxima, and died en route to the hospital. Jessica Rosales, the toddler’s mother, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in an unknown condition.

Maier was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say Maier may have been under the influence of alcohol. Neither Maier nor Eileen were reported to be wearing seat belts. “If these two individuals had been restrained properly, there’s no doubt in my mind, that they would be here today,” said Lt. Richard Cash.

According to statistics, approximately one-third of all fatal car accidents involve a driver who is ‘objectively alcohol impaired,’ or intoxicated. If you or your loved have suffered injury or want to file a wrongful death lawsuit due to someone else’s recklessness in a drunk driving accident, contact our Nashville car accident attorney for a free initial consultation of your case.
