Memphis Interstate 240 was shut down for four hours on May 14 after a cement truck collided with a MATA bus in a fatal truck accident. Witnesses report that the cement truck lost control when merging onto the south bound lane and hit the bus, driven by Chantel Sanders, head-on. Several people tried to help the driver, but police said she died on impact. Police are unsure if Sanders was wearing a seatbelt, but said it would not have mattered given the brutality of the impact. The cement truck driver was taken to the hospital for critical injuries. There were no other passengers on the bus and it is unknown if the cement truck driver will be charged.
