Tragically, on November 14, a Good Samaritan in Nashville who stopped at the scene of a car crash died after he accidentally stepped over a bridge railing and fell into a river.
According to Reuters, the victim, Mark A. Ferguson, 27, of Omaha, Nebraska, apparently thought there was land on the other side of the bridge when he stepped over the railing and fell into the Stones River. Nashville police said he was able to swim to the bank of the river, but he later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Ferguson was driving with three other people on Interstate 40 when they came upon a car that crashed into a retaining wall and was blocking the interstate. The men reportedly could not find the driver of the vehicle, who allegedly fled the scene into a nearby set of woods.
The driver of the vehicle, Nathan Earl Albright, 36, was later found by police and showed signs of impairment. He was later charged with driving under the influence and refusing to take the breath/alcohol test.
