Sadly, on July 10, a driver was injured in a rollover accident on Interstate 24 in Davidson County.

According to Scripps Media, the accident occurred at around 4:30 a.m., on the I-24 ramp that connects to Interstate 65. The crash remains under investigation. The driver was allegedly taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for injury treatment.

It remains unclear whether or not other passengers were injured in the wreck.

Unfortunately, rollover accidents can lead to serious personal injuries or death. According to Consumer Reports, “although rollovers occur in only about 3 percent of all serious crashes, they account for about 30 percent of people killed while riding in a passenger vehicle.”

Though rollover accidents are rare, there are actions drivers can take to prevent them. Most rollover accidents occur when narrower vehicles (SUVs, vans) round curves or have a sudden shift in weight that affects balance. To prevent this from occurring, you can:

  • Avoid making sharp turns quickly
  • Avoid over-gripping on a steering wheel
  • Make sure any load you are hauling on top of your vehicle is not too much for it to bear
  • Avoid drunk driving
  • Check your tires and make sure they are balanced properly
  • Follow posted speed limits

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), your chances of being involved in a rollover accident increase significantly when you are traveling at high speeds, as even a slight overcorrection when steering can send your vehicle out of control.

You may be able to hold a reckless driver liable following a rollover accident, or you may be able to pursue a lawsuit against a vehicle manufacturer, if defective auto parts played a role in the crash.
