According to WTVF-TV, one woman and a 4-year-old child were killed in a car accident last month in Nolensville.

WTVF reported that the crash occurred on Nolensville Road, in South Nolensville, when 28-year-old Crystal Maier drove a black Honda into oncoming traffic.

Investigators told WTVF that prior to the fatal crash, Maier’s vehicle clipped two cars before traveling a short distance and slamming head-on into another vehicle. In all, five vehicles were involved in the crash.

Eileen Sorto, 4, was thrown from the backseat of a Nissan Maxima involved in the crash and died en route to a hospital. Maier died at the scene of the crash. Neither Sorto nor Maier were wearing seatbelts.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said that alcohol might have played a role in the crash. Investigators reportedly found alcohol inside Maier’s vehicle.

Sorto’s mother, Jessica Rosales, 32, was transported to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. One of the cars involved in the crash had both its driver and passenger flee the scene, and both were charged with leaving the scene of an accident. The driver of the vehicle reportedly did not have a valid license.

I HAVE BEEN INJURED IN A NASHVILLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT

If an accident involves a hit-and-run driver or someone who was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, his or her negligence could have played a role in the severity of the crash. In drunk driving accidents, this is extremely prevalent as crashes typically involve death or catastrophic injuries like spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and broken bones.

Since 2008, there have been 1,540 DUI fatalities on Tennessee roadways.
